Endurance Shed

Thadeus Frazier-Reed and Cassia Streb present Shedstallation No.1
An array of speakers will be arranged inside the shed. The sound material will consist of recordings of water as well as "manufactured" water sounds. From the outside of the closed shed all sounds will blend together and into the environment as a white noise. The audience will be invited to listen more closely using the "glass to the door" technique. In this way they will focus in on the individual sounds that create the whole. The purpose of the singing shed is to explore different levels of perception. The perception of the sounds as a whole, the individual sounds, the creation of water sounds using non-liquid elements balanced against recordings of actual water and individual and group perceptions. The other aim of the project is to use the shed as an instrument of sorts, the structure itself being used to transmit the sounds.

Ringtones is an interactive installation made from a modified office telephone. Participants are invited to dial a ten digit phone number ( e.g. (123) 456-7890 ) then listen to a resulting piece of algorithmic music generated by special circuitry installed inside the telephone. Each combination of numbers produces a unique composition creating the possibility of ten billion different songs.
